As the study by Jazayeri et al in this issue of The Journal of Rheumatology points out, the prevalence of unemployment in people with systemic sclerosis (SSc) is estimated at 40.5%, and SSc is associated with "presenteeism (ie, working while unwell), lack of participation in employment, and ultimately, absenteeism."¹ This is of course true of patients with the many other musculoskeletal diseases that we as rheumatologists treat.
